KAKO SO TOLMINSKEGA GROFA UŠI SNEDLE

Začele so mu lest uši iz telesa in ga grist. Poklicali so dohtarja, a mu ni mogel nič pomagati.

HOW COUNT OF TOLMIN WAS EATEN BY LICE

The count of Tolmin was a very evil man.He once ordered the peasants, from the village of Poljubinj, to build a wall around the hill where his castle was built. This was so that he could keep the wild animals behind the wall in-order to hunt them. This was exactly at the time when the peasants should have been harvesting the wheat crop, but they had to build the wall for the count instead.

The count sent his servant to listen to what the peasants were saying. He returned with the message that they were cursing him. The count laughed and said that was good.

After a while he sent his servant again and he came back with the same message, that they were still cursing him. Then came the hail which ruined all the wheat. The count sent the servant once again to listen to what the Poljubinj peasants were saying about at the work. He came back with the message that they were praying for the count’s death.

Then the count sighed: “Now it’s over for me!”

Then the lice came uit of his body and began gnawing at him. The doctor was called for help, but he could do nothing.

So god’s punishment came upon the count. He was devoured by lice.
